Mr. Runkel is Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer of U.S. Bancorp. He has served in this position since August 2021. He previously was Chief Credit Officer, a role he had held since December 2013. Prior to that time, he held a number of positions within U.S. Bancorp including Executive Credit Officer of U.S. Bancorp Retail Banking and Payment Services and Senior Vice President and Risk Manager of U.S. Bancorp Retail and Small Business Banking. Before joining U.S. Bancorp in 2002, he worked in credit risk management at Fingerhut, a subsidiary of Federated Department Stores, and Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Dakota. Mr. Runkel is a member of the board of directors for CommonBond Communities, an affordable housing non-profit serving Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa, and is a past board member of Special Olympics Minnesota and the Risk Management Association’s Consumer Risk Management Committee. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Augustana College and an MBA from St. Mary’s University.
