John Stern is the senior executive vice president and chief financial officer of U.S. Bancorp, a financial services holding company with international operations. U.S. Bancorp is headquartered in Minneapolis and is the parent company of U.S. Bank, the fifth-largest commercial bank in the United States. U.S. Bancorp is also the parent company of Elavon, a leader in the payment processing industry.

John has been with the organization since 2000. Prior to becoming head of finance in 2023, he held various leadership positions within the company, including president of the organization’s Global Corporate Trust and Custody business for two years and corporate treasurer for eight years.

John is a former 40 under 40 honoree and recently served on the board of the Alzheimer’s Association, Minnesota-North Dakota Chapter. He earned his master’s degree in business administration from the University of St. Thomas and his bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Minnesota.
